Looking back as I am, I went up to the reservoir quite a few times in April, I sometimes feel like I haven't been in ages but not the case then. AND, my first sighting was a female Crossbill. They are the real reason I come up here so often, them and many other birds but since my closeup experience with a couple last year I've been hoping ....
April 1st
Another bird I'm always hopeful of getting good shots of is the Goldcrest, elusive little beggars they are!
I see at least one almost every time I'm up here but they just will not keep still :)
I see Buzzards most times as well, if I don't see any birds of prey there's something wrong.
As we enter Spring, this area is alive with bird song so there's a lot to hear but not always see.
Dunnock are often overlooked, lots of people may never have knowingly seen one but they're beautiful wee birds with a beautiful song, similar to a Robin in my ears.
And it's Osprey season!!!!! There are a lot of them up here, which is absolutely great, I've yet to catch the dive and catch but I've seen and photographed the aftermath :)

Osprey and Common Gull

Osprey and Common Gull

This one was being harassed as it flew up the reservoir, several Common Gulls chasing it, protecting their nests I guess but as far as I know, an Osprey eats fish! The Osprey wasn't particularly bothered by the gulls.
I love the two shots above, glancing back over its wings and ducking as the gull swoops overhead? They can get quite close sometimes, which is obviously a bonus for me.

Leaving

I've completely missed one approaching me from behind, only spotting it as it passed overhead, I'm permanently scanning all around, near and far, not easy at my age you know!? ;)
I got these as I was walking back down towards the car park, one more sighting before I drove home.
I'm guessing the wild swimmers left it behind?
It appears that I also popped up here on April 8th but only took a few photos.
